The brand new trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series, Loki, was recently released by Marvel and there is a lot to unpack. Serving stunning visuals and yet another comedic duo for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the trailer is more than enough to get fans excited for the show.

With a release date set on 11 June, Loki will follow the 2014 version of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after he stole the tesseract in Avengers Endgame. The series will also introduce the Time Variance Authority (TVA) as well as brand new characters such as Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Ravonna Lexus Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw).

Throughout the trailer we learn that by stealing the tesseract, Loki has broken the proper flow of time and created a bunch of alternate realities. This results in the TVA forcing him to help them fix the timeline, though they are weary of his manipulative ways. The dialogue that can be heard sets the tone of the series as a funny, mischievous crime thriller.

As the trailer unfolds, one thing is clear. Loki will have magnificent cinematography, far beyond any Disney+ show that has been released thus far. From a mysterious castle-like door to a planet on fire, each shot captures the elegance and chaos that is Loki. The various colours used for each particular scene, from purple to green, help to set the tone of the show and further emphasise on the marvelous cinematography. Though many of the scenes are shown very briefly in the trailer, the beauty of those scenes cannot be missed.

Each scene also shows Loki in a different reality. Though it is unclear what happens in each alternate reality that has been created, viewers can look forward to Loki revisiting certain places from his past such as Asgard and New York. Loki’s powers can also be spotted in the trailer as he uses them in a fight. Though it only appears once, and rather briefly, it is enough to show fans that Loki will be fighting with more than just his knife this time around.

The trailer also further introduces two new characters, Mobius and Ravonna Lexus Renslayer who are both a part of the TVA. Mobius can be seen taking charge of Loki’s case and the two of them form somewhat of an unlikely comedic duo. Ravonna serves as a judge at the TVA unlike her comic book counterpart who is a princess from the 40th century. In the comics, Ravonna is also the love interest of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) , who is set to make his own MCU debut in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp movie.

Though nothing has been confirmed, it is strongly suggested that the lady sitting next to Loki in one of the scenes within the trailer is none other than Lady Loki herself. Rumoured to be portrayed by Sophia Di Martino, Lady Loki is heavily rumoured to make her MCU debut within the Loki series. Though there are speculations that the lady in that scene is Black Widow and not Lady Loki, fans will just have to wait and see.

Overall, the trailer does set high expectations for the upcoming series. Fans have already begun their speculations and analysis of the show and the excitement surrounding the Loki series is growing by the day. For many viewers, 11 June cannot come soon enough as they eagerly await to welcome everyone’s favourite God of Mischief back onto their screens.

Stream Loki on Disney+ on 11 June 2021.
